Elkton Little League’s Volunteer Work Bond
Elkton Little League needs your help to keep costs down while continuing to provide a fun and safe playing environment for our kids. Elkton Little League is a volunteer organization, and no one in our organization is paid. It takes over 2,500 hours of volunteer time to run our Spring season and ensure its success. Volunteer time requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Field clean-up/maintenance
- Concession stand
- Umpiring
To help us meet demand associated with volunteer requirements, we have researched local and national programs and found a program called Volunteer Work Bond. The Volunteer Work Bond program has made tremendous improvements to the success and involvement within the organizations that have implemented the program. Our sole objective with implementation of the Volunteer Work Bond is to increase involvement from our Little League Family. Our intention is not to raise money.
The Volunteer Work Bond works by a process by which each family provides a non-cashed/returnable check, which will be held as collateral against time spent volunteering in various capacities with the league over the course of the season. The criteria per season is as follows:
Spring Season - a $100 Volunteer Work Bond will be will be returned after you have completed your four hours of volunteer work. You can choose any of the below to add up to 4 points:
- 2 hours in concession stand equals 2 points
- 2 hours field cleanup equals 2 points
- Umpiring 2 games behind the plate counts as 2 points
- EXAMPLE:
- You work two hours in concession stand you get 2 points
- You umpire two games behind the plate you get 2 points
- You have now gotten your 4 "points" and your work bond is considered complete
- The valid combinations of workbond are as follows:
- 2 hours field cleanup AND 2 hours in concession stand
- 2 hours Concession Stand AND umpire 2 games
- 4 hours in concession Stand
- Umpire 4 games
Fall Season - a $50 Volunteer Work Bond will be will be returned after one of the following volunteer commitment combinations is completed:
- 2-hours working in the Concession Stand
- 2-hours working during Field Cleanup Day
During the Spring Season, each family is required to provide one adult to work two (2) hours in the Concession Stand. It is important that every family work the Concession Stand in order for us to ensure that the stands are opened for all games at all levels. With each family providing two hours in the concession stand, the remaining two hours of time can be obtained during Field Cleanup Days, umpiring a game, or two additional hours in the concession stand. The concession stand is an important fundraiser for Elkton Little League, and is vital to improving the fields, bleachers, dugouts, and bullpens within the complex.
Signups for volunteering can be at the fields at the beginning of the Field Cleanup Day, and/or at the concession stand when open.
Please note that if you register online and pay with a credit card, your card will be charged the Work Bond fee, which will be refunded via a check upon completion of the volunteer work.
Reserve your spot early to ensure you secure your preferred time. The blocks of time will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Volunteer work: There will be an information desk set up at the Elkton Little League Complex on all field clean up dates. Each participant is responsible for ensuring they sign in at the information desk to ensure credit gets applied to their required hours.
Field clean-up activities include; raking, painting, weed eating, pressure washing, and infield dragging, to name a few. Your help is needed!
