Tryouts and Draft Process Explained

  • Tryouts:
    • Tryouts are REQUIRED (see exception below) for any child League age 9-16 registering for Baseball and/or Softball
      • Exception: If Majors or JR/SR division is NOT doing a redraft, a player will automatically be placed on the same team as last Spring Season
      • NOTE: Fall ball does not qualify for a automatic placement, only the previous spring season
      • Division draft status can be located here
      • These players do NOT need to try out
    • If there is a redraft than all players MUST try out regardless of last year placement
    • Any player new to a division MUST try out regardless of division draft status
    • Players are trying out based on AGE and NOT for a specific division
      •  A player is NOT trying out for Minor A or Majors
      • They attend tryouts and are entered into the draft pool to be selected to a team
      • They may be drafted into Majors even though registered for Minor A or drafted into Minor A when registered for Majors
    • JR/SR is different as League age 13-16 MUST play in the JR/SR division per little league rules
    • Registering a player in a certain division does NOT guarantee play in that division
      • See Draft Explanation below
    • Any player that does NOT attend tryouts will be added to the draft as a "hat" pick
      • Their name will be written on a piece of paper and placed in a hat that can be drawn by any manager in the draft
      • A manager can NOT select a kid who did not attend tryouts by name

  • Draft Process High Level Explained:
    • Drafts are all completed in compliance with the Little League Rule book
      • The different types of drafts are all explained in detail there if anyone has further questions
    • Drafts are performed AFTER  tryouts are completed
    • Drafts are done from Oldest Division to Youngest
      • EX:
        • JR/SR
        • Majors
        • Minor A
      • EXCEPTION:  JR/SR draft may be done later pending the High School Tryout dates as well as the fact that the JR/SR draft has no impact on lower drafts
  • Draft Steps:
    • Once tryouts are completed all eligible participants will be added to the draft sheet and arranged by League Age
    • The Majors managers will meet and perform their draft
      • The VP of the division will predetermine the number of kids drafted per team (approx 12 but can be more or less pending registrations and division)
      • Drafts are conducted per the Little League Rule Book
      • Any child still on the board at the end of the Majors draft will be entered into the Minor A draft
    • Minor A managers will then meet and perform their draft
      • Any child drafted into majors will be removed from the draft board and the remaining players will be drafted from
